Southport's Landowning Families
This new book, a limited edition of only 200 copies, tells the fascinating history of four families - the Blundells of Ince, the Heskeths, the Bolds and the Scarisbricks - who owned the land on which Southport gradually rose from the late eighteenth century. These families, local landowners for many centuries, were responsible for developing the site from a few cottages by the sea to the large town of today. Their stories are full of interest, including family feuds, religious troubles, grand houses and changing fortunes.
The book is an important addition to the histories of Southport already published by the Birkdale and Ainsdale Historical Research Society.
